New phase of MAPAMA: the future of the CAP, the inclusion of young people, and the promotion of women in the agricultural sector are the key issues.

On December 21, Minister Isabel García Tejerina announced the department's objectives for this term in the Congress of Deputies.


He announced that, within the framework of the agri-food sector, Spain will be involved from the outset in the CAP review process , with the holding of a conference on the future of the CAP in the first quarter of 2017, open to all stakeholders in the sector. This conference will serve to develop a proposal for Spain's position and will subsequently be presented and discussed with agricultural organizations and the Autonomous Communities.

On the other hand, women and young people will be the central focus of the National Strategy for Rural Modernization and Diversification , aimed at developing business skills, entrepreneurship, and innovation. The plan is to recruit 20,000 young people in the coming years.

The measures included in the Plan for the Promotion of Rural Women 2015-2020 , in which six ministries participate, will also be implemented to enhance women's visibility and promote employment and entrepreneurship. In this regard, efforts will be made to promote the training of rural professionals through multi-regional training plans and the promotion of rural women. With this same objective, the aim is to improve the coordination and monitoring of the 18 regional Rural Development programs.

Tackling the problem of loss-making sales , food quality , the competitiveness of the food industry , the promotion of organic farming , climate change and the environment , the modernization of irrigation , agricultural health , and the fight against and prevention of forest fires are also among the Ministry's objectives.

Within the fishing sector, the minister announced that she will focus on promoting scientific advice , expanding the Marine Reserve Network , reviewing national fishing grounds management plans , promoting innovation and technological development , and supporting and expanding the European Union's Fisheries Agreements , among other measures.

On the other hand, adaptation to and combating climate change , as well as the planning, management, and protection of the marine environment , will be the focus of the department's environmental objectives during this term.
