The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has published the 2021 CULTIVA Program Training Internship Catalog on its website. In this catalog, interested young people can consult all the information related to the 192 training internships offered this year and organized by the following collaborating entities: the Agrarian Association of Young Farmers (ASAJA), the Agro-Food Cooperatives of Spain (U. de Coop.), the Union of Farmers and Ranchers, the Union of Small Farmers and Ranchers (UPA), the Union of Family Agricultural Schools (UNEFA), and the Aland Foundation. Along with the catalog, a training internship search engine will also be available, allowing them to select internships based on territory, dates, and agricultural production.

  • The CULTIVA 2021 Program offers 192 training placements for young farmers and ranchers, which will begin in November of this year and run until March 31, 2022.
  • Interested young people have 10 business days, from October 6 to 20, to apply to participate in up to 10 training placements.
  • When assigning stays, priority will be given to the most recently settled young people, female farmers and ranchers, and those who did not participate in the program last year.

The model host farms where the training placements will take place are located throughout Spain, with the exception of Ceuta and Melilla, and stand out for being benchmarks in terms of innovation, production resources, business model, and social, environmental, and/or climatic characteristics.

The CULTIVA Program is aimed at young people who joined the agricultural sector for the first time as farm managers on or after January 1, 2016, and who were under 41 years of age at the time of their initial establishment .

Young people can apply to participate in up to 10 different training placements at model host farms that have similar agricultural production and are generally located in a different autonomous community from the one in which the young people carry out their own activity.

Applications

The deadline for submitting applications through the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food's online office will be from October 6 to 20 (inclusive).

When assigning places in the training centers, priority will be given to the most recently settled young people, female farmers and ranchers, and those who did not participate in the program last year.

The training internships will begin in November of this year and will run until March 31, 2022.

The youth's accommodation, food, and transportation expenses resulting from their participation in the training placements are covered by the CULTIVA Program. In addition, youth may be eligible for compensation for the costs of having their farm replaced by a third party during their absence due to their participation in the training placement.

Requirements

Young farmer applicants must consider that:

  • They must be under 41 years of age on the date of their first installation in the agricultural activity.
  • The date of first installation as farm manager equal to or after January 1, 2016, regardless of whether the incorporation into agricultural activity was carried out through aid from Rural Development Programs.
  • They must belong to a different Autonomous Community than the model farm hosting the visits selected in the application (with some exceptions).

All information about the 2021 CULTIVA Program can be found in the Rural Youth section of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food website.
